Cal Cup

Cal Cup 2017 was held on September 30th and October 1st in San Francisco!

Golden Gate Park Tennis Courts, San Francisco, 94114

What is Cal Cup?

Dating back to the days when the gays weren’t the only ones who played tennis in short shorts, the first ever Cal Cup competition was held in October 1986 in San Diego. The top 24 players from the San Francisco (GLTF), San Diego (SDTF), and Los Angeles (LATA) gay/lesbian/bi/trans leagues battle it out over two days in 36 singles and 36 doubles matches.

Who's eligible to try out?

GLTF members with at least a strong USTA rating of 4.0+ for men or 4.5+ for women, which is equivalent to GLTA rating of A for men or Open for women, are eligible to try out. Camaraderie is very important to our team, so we’re also looking for committed players with great attitude on and off the court.

What's the selection process like?

To find the strongest 24 singles players and 12 doubles teams, your performance at practices, challenge matches, and qualification tournaments will be evaluated. More detail on the criteria will be posted in SF Cal Cup Facebook group, which is our main channel of communication for the team.

Ok, I’m Interested. What’s next?

Please contact Cal Cup Captains, Tim Thianthai( and Mark Dinh ( as soon as possible. We will invite you to our SF Cal Cup Facebook group where all the logistics will be posted. Practices this year will be held on Sundays at various times and locations, starting in June.
